One way to draw attention to those annoying potholes on your block is to turn the problem into a clever photo project. With the help of photographers Arturas Artiusenka and Eurika Balciute, a creative group of friends—called Z999—created this hilarious photo series as a way to raise awareness of the poor road conditions in the Lithuanian city of Kaunas.

I’ve been thinking a lot about my direction for this project - this project presents an opportunity to design something that I have always wanted to design…duh, but normally during school I devote all of my time to provided project prompts - a prompt. That is what this project does not have. There are tons of limitations (which is great) but no “jumping off point” or initial guidance that you can refer back to when you don’t know where to go. So why not just choose something that I have always wanted to design?

I always keep a list of things that I want to design in my life. There’s a really long list including things that are a little less important - sort of the things that almost every designer attempts at some point thinking that they can do it better (we all think that to an extent, come on - it comes with the territory), but then there is the list of things that I have written down because of personal connection/interest.

One object I want to design is a hummingbird feeder. This makes sense in my life for many, many reasons. One connection/story told short is that my younger brother’s favorite bird is a hummingbird - he tends his hummingbird feeders regularly, and always makes the entire family aware of when we have visitors feeding. There are reasons alongside this small fact that make this connection important to me. Besides, this simple, humble object may have a strong connection to many others, or maybe it could create one - it’s feeling like a strong possibility at this point.

A ton of other steps to go. Quilt making is daunting but evidently I’m into it.

Wasted Rita is a graphic designer and illustrator conceived in New Jersey, based in Lisbon. She is a natural born agent provocateur, sarcastic as needed and a full-time thinker who must write about life, human behaviors and play with words in order to keep breathing.
She studied in a religious college and grew up listening to Black Flag, turning out to be a harsh mixture between Jesus Christ and punk-rock. Rough and rude at first sight, above all, just a passionate kid doing what she thinks she should.
